Joy Gift Publishing Ltd – Modern Slavery Statement

This statement is made pursuant to Section 54 of the UK Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps Joy Gift Publishing Ltd has taken during the first full year of trading to ensure that modern slavery and human trafficking are not taking place in our business or supply chains.

Our Business

Joy Gift Publishing Ltd is a small book packaging / publishing company based in the United Kingdom. We publish a range of books, calendars and puzzles across a variety of genres. While our editorial and business operations are based in the UK, a significant portion of our physical books are printed by partners based in China. We supply to retailers, wholesalers, publishers, mail order companies and heritage organisations in the UK and around the world.

Our Supply Chain

Our supply chain primarily involves:

  • Shipping, Printing and binding services, primarily sourced from a third-party printing company in China

  • Distribution and warehousing services supplied by a UK-based company

  • Freelance services such as editing, design, illustration and marketing

Given the geographic diversity and nature of our suppliers, particularly overseas manufacturing, we recognize the potential risk for modern slavery and labour exploitation within our supply chain.

Our Policies

We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all our business relationships. Our policies include:

  • Supplier Code of Conduct – We make it clear to all suppliers that we expect them to comply with international labour standards, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and the prohibition of forced or child labour

  • Due Diligence Policy – Encouraging review and monitoring of supplier practices and maintaining open communication with all suppliers regarding labour standards.

Due Diligence and Risk Assessment

We have taken the following steps:

  • Conducted a basic risk assessment of our supply chain, focusing on the printing operations in China.

  • Sought confirmation from our printing partners in China that they stick to ethical labour practices and are compliant with local and international labour laws.

  • Required sight of SMETA certification from our printing partners in China to prove they are conforming to these policies.

Training and Awareness

Due to the size of our business, formal training is limited. However, key staff involved in supplier management have been made aware of the risks of modern slavery and how to identify and escalate concerns.

Effectiveness and Future Steps

We aim to continue strengthening our approach by:

  • Requesting updated ethical compliance statements from our key suppliers annually

  • Enhancing internal awareness of modern slavery risks across our team
